Giles Deacon

There are surely not many fashion designers whose claim-to-fame is a drawing of a budgerigar driving a Rolls-Royce but Giles Deacon, the current British Fashion Designer, rose to international acclaim for no more obvious and starry reason than that. It is now the stuff of fashion folklore that when Giles Deacon took the helm at the Italian luxury goods label Bottega Veneta ( Bottega Veneta handbags ) in 1998, working with his former girlfriend, stylist Katie Grand, it was this very illustration that bagged him the job.

Giles Deacon

Giles Deacon, from Cumbria, England, was born in Darlington, County Durham.

He studied at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design, alongside the designers Alexander McQueen and Luella Bartley.

After leaving university, Giles Deacon designed for high fashion houses as diverse as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Bottega Veneta, Gucci ( Gucci handbags ) and Louis Vuitton ( Louis Vuitton handbags ) before starting his own label in 2003, Giles was named British Fashion Designer of the Year 2006 at the prestigious British Fashion Awards, an award previously won by the likes of John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood.

At the time when Giles Deacon worked as a designer for the Italian label, Bottega Veneta, he brought edginess to the label. Only when Tom Ford arranged for Gucci to buy Bottega Veneta ( Bottega Veneta handbags ) was Giles Deacon replaced by Tomas Maier. Instead, Ford nabbed Deacon to work with him on Gucci womenswear. No wonder Giles Deacon is credited with injecting high-octane glamour into British fashion.
