The Venice Film Festival kicked off on the Veneto with the opening ceremony and the premiere of Baaria at the Sala Grande.

Eva Mendes stepped out on to the red carpet in a Dolce & Gabbana resort 2010 dress that had all the sexy hallmarks of the design duo's trademark style: strapless, form-fitting and covered in animal print.  In a show of sartorial patriotism, stars of Italian cinema Laura Chiatti, Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Margareth Madè all added to the glam factor in dresses by Italian brands Prada, Roberto Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana respectively.

SEPTEMBER 2009 - Eva Mendes chose a Dolce & Gabbana resort 2010 dress with a jewelled headpiece for the opening ceremony of the film festival and premiere of Baaria.

Vogue Italia's Franca Sozzani was escorted to the Venice Film Festival's opening ceremony by Italian novelist Alain Elkann, who is also in charge of cultural programes on Italian television. Formula One boss Flavio Briatore escorted his model wife, Elisabetta Gregoraci, down the red carpet for the Italo-centric opening ceremony. Italian actress Laura Chiatti wore a Prada dress for the opening ceremony of the film festival. Actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta wore a plunging Roberto Cavalli dress in one of the hottest colour trend. Actress Margareth Madè chose a strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress for her red carpet moment at the opening ceremony and Baaria premiere. Actress Sandrine Bonnaire worked her asymmetric gown with a vintage-inspired pair of heels for the opening ceremony. Eva Mendes joined Nicholas Cage for the photocall for their film, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. The actress wore the same Dolce & Gabbana headband that she wore to the opening ceremony with a silk and lace dress and a Salvatore Ferragamo handbag. Luciana Damon joined her husband, Matt, on the red carpet for the premiere of his film The Informant!. Luciana chose a delicately draped nude dress for the occasion. Eva Mendes chose a black Armani Privé dress for the red carpet premiere of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.
